What can I do with my old PC or laptop?

There is a lot more that you can do with your old computer other than throwing it away or selling it to a junk vendor for a few bucks.

If you have a very old laptop running on old Celeron wheels you can actually increase the speed of your laptop and make it run on windows 7 by using the latest SDD of 16GB. But if your laptop is not so outdated, you can actually use it to watch films or for listening to your favorite songs in which case it will be saving you the cost of a DVD player or something likely and will also be giving you the chance of tweaking the equalizer and a lot of other settings in order to suite your music style which you cannot do with a DVD player. You can use your CPU to build a Home Theatre PC. I have written a detailed article on this topic in this blog where you will find the necessary requirements and add-ons which will give you the best media experience you have ever had in your life. But what if you do not want the PC at all. There are many options from where you can choose the one which best suits you.

• Recycle: Hand over your PC or laptop to a recycling company like Attero Recyclers and you will be able to make some money out of it. Recyclers will accept your electronic gadgets without taking into account the age of your PC. At Attero they will pay you on the basis of the condition of your device. If it is working, you will get more money for your device. And in case if it is not working, it will still be accepted. In the latter case you will be paid on the basis of the weight of the device which you are submitting. Recycling is the option to be chosen if you want to dispose your PC in a proper environment friendly manner. But what if your PC is still working very nicely and that you do not want the small amount of money that will be paid to you? The best option in this case would be to donate your PC. But you need to be a bit cautious about your personal information which is stored inside your computer. Read the next point to see what I mean to say.
• Your computer will be containing a few important informations on it which you do not want to disclose to others. For example if you use the auto-sign-in feature for logging into your email-id, the browser will remember you username and password which is undesired if you want to donate your PC. Use CCleaner and clean all the internet cache, cookies etc that you can do using the software. But even now you are not safe. The best option in my opinion is to format your system (both the drives). With the booting of your system, the default browser of the system will also be booted. Thus all the default softwares will be present on the computer and your personal data will also be deleted once and for all. If you prefer using CCleaner you need to clear the private data and do a lot of other tweaks to your computer and browser. But there is one more easy solution to your problem. Reinstall the browsers that you are having (you will get free downloadable browser programs on the internet). And after doing this, manually delete all the data that is sitting in your Temp and Prefetch folders in the Windows folder (it will be present in your C drive where all the program files are kept). If you are unable to see the windows folder go to my computer>tools>folder options> view> show hidden files and folders. There is no way that your PC will not run without this folder. The two folders stated above keep a few backup files of the programs you run or install, deleting which will always be a better option if you want to give your computer away to someone. And Bingo these are the different options that you are left with for your old PC or laptop. Dell and Microsoft also recycle computers, computer peripherals as well as laptops. But I don’t think that there will be much difference in donating it and recycling it. All the companies will give moreover the same price for your E-waste by all the recycling companies present out there. In my opinion it is always a better option to donate your PC. Do not forget to clear your private data in either of the cases. Be especially careful with your Hard Disk Drive. The data contained in it will create great troubles for you in the mere future if you have stored any private data in it, which is undesired. Follow everything I have said, before giving away your old PC or laptop to somebody else.
