Bollywood turns out to be a gamblers den

The trends at bollywood have changed. When I saw “My Name is Khan” I was pretty sure that it would not stay there for a longer time. I thought it would be more like a KANK performance. But it seems that people watch the film out of sheer excitement whenever Karan Johar, Kajol and SRK come together in a film and make it big at the boxoffice. It seems that people are coming to see this film just to see if they will get to see something which they saw in “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” which is an all time favorite of the Indian audience. But it seems that even politics had to do something with this promotion of this film. In my opinion, the best film that I saw recently was Rann apart from 3-idiots. But as we can see, the trends in bollywood have changed. Directors have figured out that they can make a film successful by just throwing a well reputed actor like either the trio Khans in their film. They are realizing that Indians are not seeing their film, instead, they are seeing the actors and actresses inside the film and you cannot turn me down on this one.

It has become a well known fact that there are many Khan fans in India. You might be surprised, but, on an overall scale it has been found that Salman Khan is being Googled a lot on the internet by many people even after seeing so many boxoffice flops from him! The reason is because India still lives in the past. The trio Khans are too much adored because of their previous hits which make them an all time favorite of the Indian audience. There is absolutely no reason why “Rann” should not have succeeded, if we Indians would give more weightage to the film and its story rather than the actors and actresses who have acted in it. Can you believe that “Dhamaal” did not make it big on the box-office, there was no reason why it shouldn’t have had done so. “Welcome to Sajjanpur” a low budget film was knit so precisely with so much of care and understanding and yet we Indians did not give it what it deserved. A well carved film like “Mera Naam Joker” was a great box-office flop when there was no reason why it should have had been so. Why did films like “Rang De Basanti” and “Swades” not break the record of “Kaho Na Pyaar Hai”? And, why did they not get selected for the oscars. Leave about getting selected they were not even given the chance of entering the competition. The reason is because we Indians want entertainment based films and not theme based films. The reason why 3-idiots made it big was also because of the good and well structured films in it. Patriotism provoking films will never make it big because the characters in it are Indians. When I say Indians I mean Indian dresses, Indian culture and Indian backgrounds. We are not only wearing foreign dresses, but, are also become lusty and greedy like them. In earlier India people did not like to see their daughters and wives wearing shorter dresses. But today the whole nation is dying to see films in which the girls are exposed as much as possible. This isn’t the culture of our nation. The heart of a true Indian is like the Mohan of Swades. Any foreign culture does not tempt you once you get established in the culture of our very own motherland: India. I was very happy to see a few photographs in which westerners wore Indian dresses and even applied kumkum to their foreheads and felt very happy in the Indian outfits. I saw more of such women in Sahaja Yoga and feel like thanking my mother H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi for preserving and spreading the culture of our country.

It is time that a change has to be brought in the country. But this change is possible with the help of two means. Either the media has to become sensitive and stop making useless films or, we, the youngsters have to choose the type of films which should make it big on the box-office. The directors have made the boxoffice a “gamblers den” where the producers depend completely on the lead hero for winning their bets. If the same continues we will just be seeing useless films with useful actors acting in them. Moreover it is also a decision to be taken on the side of the actors to act in films which are sensible and not in films which will increase their money in the bank. The actors have a great responsibility as they have the greatest power for making things big. A motivative film like 3-idiots gives a very strong message to the young audience and motivates them in the right direction. And, we all know that a country with a large number of youngsters being motivated in the right direction can stir things on a global level. And it is then that we will be able to see Abdul Kalam’s 2020 dream come true.

First of all the gambling at the boxoffice should be stopped and the directors should think and bring up sensational films which can shape the youngsters of our country very well. The only director who does not bother about the boxoffice while bringing new untried films at the forefront is “Ashutosh Gowariker”. We have seen his films reflecting the essence of India and Indian characters in them. We will lose films like “Lagaan”, “Rang De Basanti”, “Rann” and “Swades” to the like of “Girlfiend”, “Ishqiyan”, “Murder”,etc which are more centered towards showing bathroom cultured characters. We are becoming non-Indians knowingly or unknowingly. It is time that we should adopt a boycott movement and take a vow not to see films which do not have the fragrance of Indian culture within them. It is only then that this gambling process will come to a stop. Doing cheap publicity stunts for the sake of hyping your film is a beggars attitude. Why not release the film and leave it up to the audience to decide whether to promote the film or keep its mouth shut. Let us wait and see what the future of bollywood will be.
