Solutions to power cuts

Are you facing a minimum of two hours of power cuts everyday? Presently Karnataka is one of the major states which is facing too many blackout problems. Almost every city and town apart from Bangalore is facing a minimum of two hours of power cuts today. But this problem has a solution. Read on to know how you can face the power cuts and keep your house lighted when the whole town goes dark.

There are too many solutions that you can possibly use in order to face the power cuts. Some are cheaper and easier to follow, whereas some are costlier, yet much more reliable than the cheaper methods.

First solution as we all know is to use generators. Many types of Generators for various needs and will be available at various prices. If you thought that Generators run only on petrol or Diesel, then you are absolutely wrong. Nowadays Generators that run on Gas are also available and that too at reasonable costs. Your Generator provider might assure you less sound but, nobody can assure you a silently working Generator. And hence it is only the commercial places where these Generators are used as their costs are low as compared to the other solutions. Diesel generators usually make more noise, even then they are being used on a very wider scale in India as the cost of Diesel is pretty low. The costs of the Generator can vary all the way from Rs. 14,000 to Rs. 40,000. But if you want a silent power solution you need to go for an UPS.

A UPS (also called as inverter) is usually a power storage device which is a silent solution to your power cut problems. But even a UPS will make some noise while working. But this sound is quite negligible as compared to the sound made by a Generator. If the temperature in the UPS becomes hotter than the rated temperature, the UPS will automatically turn its fan on till the temperature returns to normal. They are called inverters because they use the AC input concert it to DC and store it in the form of DC power. And at the time of power cut, an inbuilt incerter will convert this DC power to AC power and supply the house. As far as I know the company which is most preferred by many Indians is APC. I have heard no complaints from its users. If at all there were any issues they were about the users asking for installation guidance. The company gives you a three years warranty and boasts about an eight hour battery backup and a three year warranty on most of its UPS’s. The plethora of power ratings include:

• APC 800VA Inverter Price – Rs.14,750/- with 130AH x 1 Tubular Battery and Trolley
• APC 800VA Sine Wave Inverter Price – Rs.14,200/- with 100AH x 1 Tubular Battery and Trolley
• APC 1 KVA Sine Wave Inverter Price – Rs.26,500/- with 80AH x 2 Battery and Trolley

Buying an UPS is the smartest decision according to me. If you need the UPS for working with your PC, better ask the vendor once, if you UPS will be able to meet the supply demand of your computer. Always make it a point to tell the vendor about the main reason for which you need an UPS. Also APC says that its inverters work at low voltages and can also protect the circuitry of your house during a sudden high voltage supply.

There is one more solution, but it is so costly that I cannot recommend it to most of my readers. You guessed it right! I am speaking about solar panels. The principle is quite simple. The solar energy will be converted to electrical energy and stored. Whenever you need as extra demand of power, the solar energy will be at your help. But this is not a power cut solution. It is a complete power solution. The installation and maintenance of a solar panel is pretty simple. Do not forget to keep a backup in order to face the rain season. The vendors will do it all for you. Just make sure that you do not shell out extra money for these services. It is always a better option to ask all the panel providers about the installation and service charges and choose the best option suitable for you. But I myself personally feel that installing a solar panel on your roof is a better solution for your personal home.

Have a nice day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. I have a question ?. For the UPS how do I set it at home or how do I connect it to the tube lights and fans at my home if required ? I haven't seen an UPS so far that's the reason I am asking this.

  2. Thanks for sharing a article on solar power cuts .It is really informative and helpful post.Solar Power is nothing but it is the conversion of the solar energy from the sun into thermal or electrical energy by way of using photovoltaic, etc.A Solar panel is typically a panel that absorbs solar energy and uses it as a source of energy to generate electricity.I know a place which is one of the best smart solar panels installation company provides best solar services and products that are not just economical, but also efficient with customized solutions to offer you the best from our vast range of affordable models...
