Commanding Managers Never Win

Many managers feel that it is a good commander who is needed to make the ship of business run smoothly. But your employees are not servants. Instead, they are respectable people, and, this fact has to be understood by the managing directors. Shouting at others while sitting inside the carriage is quite easy. But when the time comes to hold the reins you will understand how coping and susceptible your workers are!

Many managing directors have stated the ill-effects of being strict and harsh towards their employees. First of all the mutual understanding and respect that you deserve will be lost. The creativity of your employees will be suppressed. Pressure will not make your workers give their best performance instead their stress levels will become very high and they will not be able to work with their full potential.

But the managers also have their own pressures which are thrown on them by the higher board of directors share holders and many others. The product has to be prepared and finished well before the submission dates. And then there will be testing and tweaking to make sure that the product does not lack quality while fighting with the limitations put forth by time. it is also a well known fact that a manager has to be commanding or else the employees will take things way too easy.

I had recently been to a hospital where the staff taking care of the supplies was happily doing the job given without letting any chances of complaints. The actual force which kept the spirits of the staff members high was the manager. There were jokes and things which did not make the staff feel as if it was doing a job. There was so much of mutual respect and coordination in the work that I was just wondering if I was seeing a dream or something likely. Whatever the work given by the manager, the staff just rushed forward and finished the work assigned in just no time. But what made these employees so active and joyful. It was the manager. I took my time to ask him about the various things that made his staff so active and joyful.

The first thing that he said was “There should be mutual coordination between the employees and the manager. A manager should be patient enough to listen to his staff members’ complaints and solve the conflicts which arise among the members of the staff during hectic schedules. The working of a company is nothing different than the working of an Indian household. The manager should make sure that the employees look at each other as members of the same family working together for the uplifting of an institution. The manager is the head of the family and the members have to discuss and settle several matters with him as all the important decisions of the institution lie in the hands of the manager.” When the employees work with such an intention in their mind there is a mutual respect among the employees for each other and they feel happy to work. Let us take a look at the following story:

John is a very strict manager. He is stubborn and nothing can make him happy. He is never satisfied with the work of his staff no matter how well it is done. Jack is a clerk in John’s office. All the staff members like Jack for his social and responsible behavior. He is regular at work and is the oldest member working at John’s office. Everybody communicate their ideas to the manager through Jack. The temperament of John did not leave many members to stay up to his expectations. One day Jack is given a very big assignment and the submission date is very near. Jack worked for too long and made the report ready within the allotted time. Jack went to the manager with red eyes and a smile on his face thinking that John would become very happy to know that he had completed the tremendous task within the time specified. He entered the cabin and submitted his report. But to his utter surprise John said, “Okay, you can go now.” Jack was waiting for an opportunity like this one. While leaving the room Jack turned back and said, “Did you say something?” John said, “No.” Jack said,”Oh! I thought you said thank you, well done.” And this incident changed the attitude of John from then onwards.

I had read the above story while I was in high school and I took my privilege to tell this story to my audience today. There was no other way I could have concluded this article. I hope the above story will make you understand what attitude actually means. Have a nice day!!!!!!!!!
