Bing it up

How useful is Bing as an Search Engine? If you would this question to me, I would say, that Bing is one of the most intelligent Search Engines around. The idea of the Bing search Engine is quite unique. Some people think that Bing is just another Search Engine on the internet. But, Bing is something more. If you think that Google is the best Search Engine around change your mind. There are many Search engines which compete almost neck to neck with Google. The only plus point on the side of Google as compared to the other search engines is that it has many sites indexed in its Search index. If this is a plus point on one side, it is a huge minus point on the other. With an index of so many websites, Google finds it difficult to rank the pages that it has indexed. And this is where Bing pushes itself a bit further in the race.With less number of sites indexed, Bing ranks a webpage depending on the relevancy of all the wepages (of the same site) that the searched webpage is linking to.

Bing is an intelligent and practical innovation and not just another search engine. The user interface of Bing is quite clean. When i say Bing doesnt it make you think about something quite different as cmpared to the other search engines? Do you remember a pop-up window which pops up when you hover your mouse over a particular article? This is the first intelligent innovation of Bing. If you think that this pop-up tells you nothing different than the information which appears below the link of the article being searched by you, reconsider your opinion. The article which you see below the link in the Bing Search Engine is the Meta-Tag description of the webpage (this is a description of the webpage as given by the webmaster) and the piece of window which pops out when you hover your mouse over it is a small snippet taken from the article written by the webmaster. And this pop-up is the option which saves pretty much of your time while searching something using a Search Engine. And thus many cognizent people stick to Bing because of this unique option provided by it. If you use Google or any other Search Engine you literally need to end up on the web-page in order to know the information the webpage is specifically providing to you. Whereas in Bing you get to see a portion of the web-page which in turn lets you know if this webpage contains the piece of information which you are looking out for or not. And this is what makes Bing an intelligent search Engine. If this window does not open up quickly after hovering over the link, just click the vertical grey bar that is visible at the extreme right end of the link. This will make the snapshot of the webpage appear faster.

Maybe Bing is not as fast as Google (it is pretty fast though). But the links that pop up on the first page are either too useful or unuseful. And this is where Bing loses the race to the likes of Google and Yahoo. The only reason why Bing is lagging behind Google is because it does not have much sites indexed in its database. But those that are present are quite different as compared to those appearing on Google. The reason is simple: Google used a system called as page rank to rank the pages of website in its search Engine. The only way that the webmasters can increase their site rank is by getting links from the other webmasters. So if i have a low quality site with too many backlinks to my site from othe sites i will be ranking high on the Google search pages. And this is what make Bing a bit more intelligent when compared to Google. I have seen many sites with quite low google page ranks appearing on the front page of Bing. This eventually tells us that Bing is not much bothered about the Google page rank of any website. If you like reading and searching for blogs Bing is not the right search Engine because it ranks the .com, .net and .org sites much higher than those which are having a .blogspot.com domain name. The reason is because Microsoft considers these sites to be professional websites which is true on one hand and false on the other. Many people just love Blogger blogs. And Bing definitely has to reconsider this opinion.

Moreover in my research I have found that the sites popping up on the front pages of Bing are slightly more relevant to the content I was searching for. Even if the content is not so relevant I will be saving hours of useful time as I will not have to open each and every webpage in order to see if the content is relevant to the one I am searching for.

In my opinion Bing is a great time saver even if you are searching content for downloading it from the internet. Especially if you are searching for pdf files for doing some sort of research, Bing is exactly the search engine that suits your task the best. If the information that you are searching for is not so widely known or searched for by people, you have to reluctantly go for Google search engine. But Google will waste your time if the webmaster throws tempting meta tags which make you click on them just to see that there is no useful information you are searching for on that page. Other than that Google is definitely good. And, of course Google dominates the Internet Market when it comes to Search Engine popularity. The only strong competition to Google so far is the Baidu search engine. And its popularity has been maintained by its Chinese fans who make up a majority of the internet population.

I personally like Bing for the intelligent earch Engine it has provided us with. The population of Bing users had increased just after it had been released. But, over time the Search Engine slowly lost its popularity among the Internet users to the likes of Google and Yahoo because of the other popular services provided by them (which majorly includes the chatting facility). As intelligent users it is our responsibility to help this wonderful Search Engine called Bing survive, by keeping in mind the wonderful time-saving facility it provides us with. With a few tweaks Bing will definitely see days when its fans will start using the phrase "Bing it up" for searching something.
