Love Letter

Read this exciting story about a village boy who had once written a love letter to his favorite girl.

Shantu was in tenth standard when a girl as fair as snow stole his heart like a Dhoom thief. Poor Shantu had never had such experiences ever before. He knew that he was in love. He wondered how he could express his love to his beloved one. Sitting on an altar in his house he switched on the television. His fingers started moving around the buttons of the remote control to search for an interesting programme. While browsing through the channels he heard the all time favorite “Yeh Mera Prem Patra Padhkar” song. The song finished and Shantu changed the channel to see if there was any romantic movie coming. Wherever he landed he saw people writing love letters in order to court their girl. And it was now that Shantu made up his mind to write a love letter to his dearest Soumya. Shantu was anyhow good in language and hence removed a beautiful sheet of paper and decorated it with the words that flew out of his heart. The wordings were as given below:

O dearest Souwmya,

I fell in love with you the moment I saw you.

My heart beats louder and louder the more I think about you.

Your beautiful eyes have stolen my nights.

You walk so eloquently that even a cat might envy your style.

The moment I hear you talking I remember the cuckoo’s concerts.

As fair as a swan you come in my dreams and dance like the peacock ever could.

Your peaceful eyes remind me of the God Of Love.

The shine in your eyes reminds me of the twinkling stars that decorate the night.

O dearest Sowmya give me some space in your loving heart and I shall satisfy all your needs as long as I live on this beautiful earth.
Thanking You.
Yours lovingly,
Shantu

Shantu tuned and fine tuned the love letter till it ended up as shown above. He was restless the whole night after writing this love letter. He was wondering about the reaction Sowmya would show upon reading this letter. He kept the letter close to his heart the whole night. He hardly slept for a few hours that night.

The scream of a rooster woke Shantu. He got up and got ready to go to school. Every now and then the love letter would tease his mind. His hands were shaking. He was trembling with fear thinking about the effect that his love letter would have on Sowmya. When asked about the reason for his trembling hands, Shantu lied saying that he was feeling as if the weather was cold. Shantu’s mother called him to have his breakfast. Shantu folded his love letter properly and kept it on the dining table and covered it with his hand kerchief. He ate whatever was served, took his hankie and left for school.

Even at the school Shantu was quite tensed thinking about Sowmya’s reaction when she would see his love letter. Shantu waited impatiently for the school bell to ring. As it was Saturday there would be a half day schedule. The bell rang and Shantu put his hand into the pocket to remove his love letter. To his utter surprise the letter was missing! He wondered if it fell while he removed his hankie. He searched the whole classroom but could not find it. Disappointed, he went back to his home. Shantu,s father was sitting in the hall. He told Shantu to get fresh. After washing himself, Shantu entered the hall. His father told him to take a pen and a paper and write down a few words that he would dictate. Shantu was clueless as to what was happening. He wondered if his father got the love letter he had written. But in that case he would have received series of thrashing the moment he entered the house. Taking dictation was not a new thing to Shantu. His father would take this exercise now and then in order to increase his vocabulary and improve his handwriting. Clueless Shantu sat down and wrote whatever was said. Slowly slowly a few familiar words started coming up: swan, stars, eyes. Shantu understood the matter and started changing his hand writing. But what about the previous words? Shantu,s father purposefully took a dictation test in order to see if the love letter was written by his son or not. The best way of checking this was by matching the two handwritings. And now the father was convinced that it was his son who had written the love letter. Shantu squealed a thousand times that day. He got bruises all over his legs. His father had thrashed him with a cable wire all day long.

Two months later new year arrived. By now Sowmya had come to know that Shantu loved her. She decided to tell her opinion to him indirectly and hence went to him and said ‘Happy New Year’ dear brother. It indeed was a happy new year to Shantu. He stopped thinking about the girl and started concentrating on his studies.

And thus a love letter which was written for a girl ended up into the father’s hand. Today Shantu and his father laugh like anything when they remember that accident. The moral of the story is: never write your love letter in your original handwriting. Even if you do so do not forget to change your handwriting when your father takes your dictation test. Have a nice day!!!!!!!!!
