Recession: Who is the Culprit?

It is we, the people, who are responsible for our own situation. Read on, to know how we can tackle this problem in a cool manner.

Morphius: Leo, do you believe in destiny?
Leo: No
Morphius: Why?
Leo: Because, I don’t like the idea of somebody else being in control of my life.

The above excerpt taken from the film “Matrix” tells us, why so many people are jobless today. The reason is because, they are lazy enough to write their own destiny. And hence, hand it over to somebody else, who can write it down for them. That’s exactly what has happened today. People have worked hard, obtained a degree, and handed over a blank diary of their future to the big companies, so that they can fill it in with whatever they like. They all did this by looking at the huge salary packages that they were offered. They did not even think that if the workers are getting such huge wages, then the profit that the company earns from these workers might also be so huge? No wonder, this is what makes the owners of Wipro and Infosys so rich.
You might be surprised to know that the foreigners are not as afraid as the Indians when it comes to recession problems. The reason is because they are thrust into the “earn your own living” world at a very tender age. There the kids earn their own pocket money. They will even work at a petrol pump and earn money with no sign of awkwardness on their faces. Hence, they are exposed very well to the business world, and know very well how to survive during these harsh recession times. They are quite practical. Say, a person has earned enough money in two years by working for a company and has successfully saved much of it. He is not going to wait for the company to throw him out, but, he himself will resign from the company and start his own business without thinking much about profit or loss. The reason why they can do this so easily is because they are hungry for money, and are equally ready in order to work hard so as to achieve the goals which are set in their minds. Indians are bothered about job security. They are bothered about monthly fixed payments. And hence when they are thrown out of jobs they will sit and wait till the companies put huge banners of recruitment again (with huge wages highlighted in them.)
This recession thing is actually a lesson well taught by God to man. A few days ago everybody was learning softwares in India and getting good software jobs. And a bride who would get a groom who is working as a software engineer in one of the most reputed companies around the world would be regarded as a very lucky girl. Now if a software engineer sends a proposal to some girl she will wait to see if a garage owner or mechanic’s proposal reaches her doorsteps. Such is the situation today, even then, there are many in the crowd, who still haven’t opened their eyes.
We are not yet listening to our hearts. Let me make myself clearer with the following example of a happy and successful person whom we all know very well and is one of our favorite stars. Sachin Tendulkar, the ace batsman from Mumbai, who has broken so many international records today. Why is it that he is so successful today? The reason is because cricket is not a job to him. It is his hobby. It is something that he likes above all the other things in this world. When he was young, they say that he did not focus much on his studies. He focused the most on cricket, because he had firmly taken the decision of his future. Even when he was sitting in his classroom he would look out of the window and enjoy the game of cricket that his friends were playing. His determination was so high, that, when he went to the stadium for practice, he would play continuously in the field till it was dark (leaving aside the two hours break he got during lunch time.) Now it is your turn to decide. Look back at yourself and ask your heart if there is anything it likes the most which can earn you a living. Is there anything in this world which never makes you tired, no matter how long you work on it? Ask this question and I am sure that you will smile back when you get the answer.
The problem with us Indians is that we are not taught to live our dreams. All of us live the dreams of our parents. There are many parents out there in the crowd who will tell their children to study well and get good marks in their examinations, but there are very few who will tell their children to achieve what they dream of. In trying what you want to do, you may fall for the first time. It will feel as if the whole world is against you. But do not stop. One day will come when all those who had laughed at you will stand and greet you for your success. For the first time when Walt Disney told his friend about his vision of the Mickey Mouse series, his friend laughed. But this did not stop him. He traveled towards the goal and reached it. Every successful man is successful today because he is doing what he like the most in this world. If you accept defeat at the first failure you are the greatest looser in this world. Failure is a challenge which has to be faced again and again till failure itself fails in front of you. Every time you fail, strike back like a wounded lion with attacks which are twice more fierce than the previous one.
As they say, there are two routes to the field of success. One is the route of a lift (the shortest and the easiest one). And the other is the route of the ladder (the one which is a slow yet steady, where you ascend or descend depending on your will and work). The route of the lift is the company which fools you by showing you huge wages for a job which is not so interesting. The ladder is the individual business which shows you success and failure depending on your work. If you are tired and cannot climb any further, doesn’t matter. You can rest for a while and continue later. But, what about the lift? If it fails you are stuck inside the chamber till the lift starts working again. So, it’s your choice. If you want to go by a ladder good, or else, the lift is open (not yet though- remember? recession is not yet over!)
Giving out huge payouts for a job is an excellent way for searching slaves. It is up to you to decide if you want to become the slave or the master. If a master earn less doesn’t matter. He is happy, because, there is nobody to command him. Moreover, he can do anything he likes! So, he is happy with his life and works very well. Whereas, the slave who is earning more than a master, is like a robot. His boss says something and he has to rush for it. Whatever he earns, he is still a slave. This fact cannot be denied.
This becomes clear when we read the following statement given by Bill Gates:
“My curricular activities were very poor and I had lots of backlogs in my studies. But today all the top students of all the top universities are working under me.” Hope that at least this will open your eyes. I don’t say that you should not work in companies at all. I just want to say- do what you like to do.

“Be what you want to be,
Do what your heart tells you to do,
Never listen to those, who underestimate you.
They are just a bunch of murmuring souls,
Who are trying to distract you.
Stay focused, and yours shall be done,
Success shall kiss your feet some day,
And then in the rain of success,
Thy shall dance and sing with joy,
Like a king who has conquered the whole world!”
